What Is Madonna Thinking?

As you have probably heard, Madonna has been trying to adopt a little girl, Mercy James, from Malawi, the African nation where she adopted her son David Banda. Madonna was recently denied the right to adopt as she is not a resident of Malawi and her appeal was today. The judge decided to deliberate for a bit, so you'd think Madonna would be lying low, or perhaps making some philanthropic gestures, or making an extra attempt to be photographed with her children. Or, you know, actually showing up for the appeal? But you would have thought wrong. Instead, she showed up at the Costume Institute Gala tonight in the get-up at left. Does she think this is going to help her bid? Is it an homage to Dr. Seuss? Fairy tale character costume? It may be "fun" but it certainly doesn't make her look like a stable woman or fit parent...
