Blue Hill at Stone Barns

I went to lunch up at Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Tarrytown finally last weekend. The gorgeous locavore restaurant is in a converted barn on the former Rockefeller estate, now a working farm. The grounds have not only the restaurant, but also a café, a gift shop, a weekend farmer's market, a greenhouse, fruits & vegetables, and livestock - all of which are open to the public, but have classes and membership options for those who want some extra perks. The menu at the restaurant varies each day, and you order by telling your server if you have any dietary concerns, then the chef, Dan Barber, creates a tasting menu based on those specifications. We had:

-mini asparagus burgers
-mini polenta cakes
-potato bread with spring onions and fresh butter
-softshell crab with rhubarb and fava bean purée
-purple potato gnocchi filled with ricotta and served in a butter sauce with dandelion greens
-filet mignon
-a homemade chococlate crisp bar with cocoa nib ice cream and caramel sauce
-local cheeses with pickled fig and apple marmalade

It was an incredible, fresh Spring meal - now I'm dying to go back in the Fall to see the local offerings then...
